A Film by Yoram Schaffer (Israel, 2005, 50 Minutes, Color, Hebrew, English subtitles)
Religion is conservative in its nature and Judaism is no exception. But in recent years, new voices that carry the message of equality, freedom and a true role for women in public life are now being heard.
Hadar, an orthodox Jewish woman and actress, represents the conflict of the new religious woman: she writes a feminist religious stand-up comedy show, appears solo on stage and for 60 long minutes calls for a change in the Jewish paradigm, which was formed for hundreds of years by men only.
As many other women like her, she has to overcome the confusion inherent with the desire to change the Halacha (religious laws) on one hand while staying religious on the other hand.
