“As we turn for one more glance at the moon-lit camp and the redder glow of the flame with the pillar of smoke, we cannot but realize that here we have seen the eating and burning of the last Hebrew blood sacrifice, and there comes the thought that it may never be seen again, for the Samaritans is a dying people”.

These words conclude American reporter John Whiting’s visit to the Samaritans in Palestine in 1919. At the time, less than 150 Samaritans remained of this community, the smallest and most ancient nation in the world.

Eighty years after Whiting’s dark prophecy, the Samaritans is a vibrant community with an ever-growing population of 700 , half in Israel and half in the Palestinian Authority. The sacrifice of the Pascal Lamb is only one of many ancient rites  which the Samaritans follow exactly the same way as described in the Bible.

But at the same time they must find a new path that leads them safely past the growing conflicts posed by the modern world and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

This film focuses on two couples: Israeli actors Gadi and Pnina Zdaka, who are looking for new ways to keep their traditions alive. Hind and Lutfi Altif, live in the Samaritan neighborhood on Mount Gerizim, in the Palestinian Authority. Their path to union had to get along with a strict set of traditions and customs. We follow them while waiting the birth of their first son.
